A Rich History Of Learn To Play
Nick remembers his childhood memories and now he gets to see his sons make memories of their own.
Nick Linderman's Story
What was your favorite part of playing hockey?
Time I got to spend with my friends, both on and off the ice. The physicality and competitiveness were unlike anything I had experienced playing other sports. As an adult, I still love the competition, but I also appreciate the opportunity to connect with people in a way I might not otherwise. Hockey families truly are the best families!
What did you appreciate most about playing for Euclid?
The close-knit, family atmosphere is what has always made Euclid special to me!
My wife and I both grew up in the Euclid community, so when it came time to introduce our two sons to hockey, we chose Euclid's Learn-to-Play program, even though we live in Madison. We wanted them to experience the same sense of community that meant so much to us.
One of the best things is that our kids aren't just another number on one of many teams in their age group. The coaches know them as individuals, understand their personalities and learning needs, and tailor their coaching to help them grow.
What has hockey taught you about life, friendships, and being a well-rounded person?
Hockey teaches you so much more than how to play a sport. It teaches teamwork, discipline, resilience, and how to think critically in a fast-paced environment. You learn how to compete, support your teammates, work through challenges, and be part of something bigger than yourself.
For me, hockey has also shown me the value of community.
What would you tell your younger self about the game?
I would tell myself to start playing sooner! I played baseball for as long as I can remember, but I didn't start hockey until my sophomore year of high school. I had no idea how much I would come to love this sport.
I wish I had discovered it earlier, and I'm grateful that my sons now have the opportunity to experience it from a young age.
Coach Pete was an energetic and passionate player - now he spends his time wrangling his own boys out on the ice!
Coach Pete Manfredi's Story
What was your favorite part of playing hockey?
Favorite part of playing hockey is going so fast my jersey flaps in the wind, battling for the puck, and stopping odd man rushes on defense.
What did you appreciate most about playing for Euclid?
The things I appreciate the most about playing in Euclid was that the families were all from close by, so I made a ton of friends. I also appreciated that we were always a team that worked hard and grinded out the games together. We were never the most flashy team, but we came to play hard and fast.
What has hockey taught you about life, friendships, and being a well-rounded person?
Playing taught me that whatever you put into the game is exactly what you get out of it. You have to work hard and you have to play as a team if you want to be successful. No excuses. It also taught me that it's easy to make lifelong friends when your whole group is on the same page, and willing to play hard to the last whistle as a team. It also taught me that you can't win them all and how you play the game matters as much as winning or losing.
What would you tell your younger self about the game?
I would tell my younger self to relax and enjoy every minute. Whether it be on the ice, at camp, doing dryland, or hanging out with the families off the ice, have fun. Also, practice stick handling more!
